A small concrete slab bridge carries a well-used path across the Doetor Brook, between Doe Tor and Brat Tor. The path crossed the brook here so often that it needed a bridge, but the bridge itself is easy to miss, tucked into the vegetation with gorse all round it. It is a few metres from the gate to Doe Tor Farm.
- Where: SX 53557 85146, on the Doetor Brook, about 600 m west of Doe Tor and above the River Lyd
- What: a small concrete slab bridge on a path
- Why it matters to walkers: it is the crossing you use to reach Doe Tor from the stepping stones on the River Lyd
On the way
The brook runs down to the Lyd past the walled fields of Doe Tor Farm, which it bounds on the north. The workings of Wheal Mary Emma lie about 300 m to the west, on the Lyd, so this crossing is a natural place to pause on a walk that takes in the mine, the farm and Doe Tor.
This area is outside the military firing ranges, but ranges lie nearby on the moor, so check the firing times before you go further.

Dartefacts is a database of Dartmoor sites with far more close-up detail than we can show here, and it is the best place to go deeper. Dartefacts is free to use, and nobody has to pay to look things up. If you want more, a yearly subscription adds 10-figure grid references, map zoom down to 1:25,000 and lists to tick off the places you have visited, and it helps keep the site going. We would encourage you to subscribe.
