Black Tor

Black Tor rises to 477 metres on the central plateau of Dartmoor, a straightforward granite summit in open moorland. The tor itself is modest compared to some of Dartmoor's more dramatic peaks, but its position on the high moor gives it a good vantage point across the surrounding landscape. The granite outcrops are characteristic of the moor, weathered and sturdy, with views that stretch across the rolling moorland in most directions.

The walk to Black Tor takes you through typical Dartmoor terrain, with paths crossing open heath and grassland. The approach is relatively accessible and makes for a good walk if you are in the area or combining it with nearby features. The tor itself is a natural waypoint on the moor rather than a dramatic destination, but it sits well within the quieter central landscape that many walkers value most.
