Black-a-tor Copse is one of three high-altitude oak woodlands on Dartmoor, sitting beneath Black Tor and beside the West Okement river. The trees are smaller than usual due to the harsh environment, and the ground is covered in lichens and mosses. It is managed by Natural England and is home to rare plants. The woodland is part of Dartmoor's ancient landscape, with a history stretching back to the 16th century.
