Cairnfield near Moorland House

This scheduled monument comprises a cairn and a section of the Taw Marsh Reave, a Bronze Age boundary wall that once divided the high moorland. The reave is a substantial bank and ditch, still visible as a linear feature running across the landscape, typical of the extensive field systems and territorial markers that prehistoric communities built across Dartmoor.

The cairn sits within this ancient framework, likely a burial mound or territorial marker from the same period. Today the site remains largely as it has for thousands of years, part of the open moor's palimpsest of Bronze Age settlement and land management. It offers a quiet place to understand how early communities organized and claimed the moorland.
