Cairn near White Tor

This scheduled cairn sits on the high moorland south-west of White Tor summit, part of the dense cluster of Bronze Age monuments that characterise this part of Dartmoor. Like many of the moor's burial cairns, it marks a place of significance from the second millennium BC, when the open moorland was more actively used for settlement, grazing and ritual.

Today it stands in rough, windswept terrain typical of mid-Dartmoor. The cairn itself is a modest stone heap, one among many similar monuments across the moor that tell of an ancient landscape shaped by the people who lived and worked here long before the commons we know now were formally defined.
