Enclosure near Leather Tor

This is a Bronze Age settlement cluster on the open moor, comprising six stone hut circles arranged within an enclosure, alongside a length of reave (a boundary wall) and several prospecting pits. The hut circles represent the foundations of domestic structures, while the reave marks divisions in the ancient field systems that once ordered this part of Dartmoor. The prospecting pits suggest later interest in the moor's mineral resources.

Today the site appears as low stone ruins and earthworks scattered across moorland north-east of Leather Tor. It is one of many such settlements that testify to sustained Bronze Age occupation and land use on Dartmoor, revealing how people shaped the landscape thousands of years ago. The moor here is open and windswept, much as it would have been then.
