Lower Leather Tor sits about 200 metres south of its parent tor on the precipice above Cross Gate, where the granite landscape becomes especially photogenic. It consists of three closely grouped and shattered outcrops rather than one bulk, making it altogether more elegant than the huge mass looming behind it. The eastern side here is strewn with enormous boulders that make walking difficult, a pattern of ruin that continues spectacularly southward. From this vantage point, views focus south and west towards Burrator Reservoir, which fills the scene in its entirety. The tor is easily reached from parking spots along the B3212 or from Cross Gate itself.
