Agglomerated enclosure with hut circles

Whittenknowles Rocks holds layers of Dartmoor settlement. Bronze Age hut circles survive on this exposed site, evidence of communities living and working the moorland in prehistory. Later, in the medieval period or beyond, a farmstead was established here, leaving its own traces among the older remains.

Today the site lies among scattered rocks and open moorland, its features subtle and spread across the ground. Visiting requires care and attention to spot the archaeological evidence, but the location offers a sense of continuity: people choosing this rocky, windswept place to make a living across more than two thousand years of Dartmoor's history.
