Longash Common holds a concentrated group of prehistoric remains: three stone alignments, ten cairns, and three stone hut circles that speak to Bronze Age settlement and ritual on the moor. These monuments sit within the landscape alongside a surviving length of the Great Western Reave, a substantial stone wall that marks a medieval or later field division running across Dartmoor's open ground.
The site is a palimpsest of moorland use across millennia. Walking here, you encounter the archaeology directly: the low stone circles and hut platforms are still readable in the turf, and the reave cuts visibly across the terrain. This is the working moor as it has been shaped and used by successive generations, now designated as a scheduled monument and visible to anyone who knows where to look.
