Winney's Down

Winney's Down is a rounded granite tor on Dartmoor's central plateau, rising to 539 metres. It sits in open moorland and offers broad views across the high moor, with the characteristic granite tors and rough grassland that define this landscape. The approach is typical of Dartmoor walking, crossing open ground with few defined paths.
The tor itself is modest compared to some of Dartmoor's better known peaks, but its position on the high ground makes it a natural waypoint for moorland walkers. It is a quiet spot, good for understanding the scale and emptiness of central Dartmoor.
