Winney's Down

Grid ref: SX 6214 8253

Winney's Down is a large, flat expanse of open moorland covered in tussocky grass, rising above the 520 metre contour and lying between the East Dart river and Sittaford Tor near Fernworthy Forest. The summit is marked by Statts House, an old peat cutting shelter. About a kilometre south-east stands a couple of rocky granite outcrops with views down the East Dart valley. The terrain is typical high Dartmoor: boggy and windswept. The best approach is from Postbridge, following the path towards the East Dart Waterfall.
