Wayside cross 130m ESE of Crazy Well Pool

This is a wayside cross of medieval origin, one of several that once guided travellers across the Dartmoor landscape. It stands on the open moor southeast of Crazy Well Pool, positioned to mark a route through what would have been moorland and rough terrain. Such crosses served practical and spiritual purposes, offering waymarking for merchants, pilgrims and local people crossing the exposed high ground.
Today the cross remains as a scheduled monument, a quiet marker of Dartmoor's medieval past. The surrounding landscape is much as it would have been centuries ago: rough moorland with wide views. The site is part of the network of heritage remains that trace the history of movement and settlement across the moor.
