Two large cairns, Scorhill Farm

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1018908) describes two round cairns in a line from north-north-east to south-south-west on a gentle slope above the valley of the North Teign River. The southern is a flat-topped oval mound 0.75 metres high, 12.8 metres east to west by 11.7 metres north to south, with two separate rings of edge-set stones in it. The inner ring is 7.5 metres across with stones up to 0.5 metres high, and the outer is 9.5 metres across with stones up to 0.35 metres high. Both rings survive best in the southern part. The second cairn lies 13 metres to the north-east, a flat-topped round mound 12 metres across and up to 0.6 metres high. Both mounds have hollows that suggest partial early excavation or robbing. It lies in the parish of Gidleigh, about 0.6 km north of Scorhill Tor and 2.9 km west of Murchington.
