This scheduled monument comprises two prehistoric settlements set within their associated field systems on open Dartmoor. The sites date to the Bronze Age, when communities built roundhouses and worked the surrounding landscape into managed fields and pasture. The remains visible today are characteristic of Dartmoor's upland settlement pattern: low stone circles or platforms that once supported roundhouses, alongside the subtle banks and walls that divided the moor for farming.
The landscape here tells the story of an ancient moorland economy. These settlements sat within a patchwork of fields and stock enclosures, evidence of a time when Dartmoor was more densely populated and actively farmed than it is now.
