These three round barrows stand as survivors from the Bronze Age, when Dartmoor's high ground was dotted with burial mounds marking the resting places of the communities who lived and worked the moor. East of Grenna Ball, they form part of a wider pattern of ancient monuments that speak to how the landscape was used and valued thousands of years ago.
Today the barrows remain as low earthen mounds in the moorland, modest but persistent features. Walking among them, you can sense something of the long occupation of Dartmoor and the rituals that connected these people to the ground beneath their feet. They are a scheduled monument, protected for what they tell us about our past.
