The Dancers stone circle, Stall Moor

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1003287) describes a stone alignment with two terminal cairns, one with a ring of stones round it, on Stall Moor in the upper Erme valley. The southern cairn is a circular mound 15.8 metres across and 0.3 metres high, surrounded by a kerb of 26 upright stones, from 0.7 to 1.5 metres high, which form a ring 15.5 metres across. A hollow on the south side suggests early partial digging, robbing or peat cutting. The stone ring is known as The Dancers. It lies across the parishes of Dartmoor Forest, Cornwood and Harford.

The single alignment is made mainly of small stones up to 0.8 metres high, spaced as little as 1 metre apart at the south end and elsewhere more widely spaced, where peat build-up hides the stones from view. It is about 3,320 metres long and crosses three watercourses. It runs basically north to south, with several small changes of direction along its length. At the north end, just below the summit of Green Hill, it ends close to the second cairn, a circular stony mound 9 metres across and up to 0.7 metres high, with several large stones at its centre, one set on edge that may be part of a cist, and a slightly hollowed centre showing early partial digging or robbing. Other remains nearby, some scheduled and some not, are outside this scheduling.
