Hut circle settlement on Stall Moor

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1003192) describes part of a partly enclosed stone hut circle settlement on the lower south-eastern slopes of Stall Moor, on the western side of the valley of the River Erme. It survives as sixteen stone hut circles, built into or attached to the outside of three joined enclosures of varying size and shape, with three free-standing huts outlying to the south-east. It lies in the parish of Cornwood.

The huts are from 2.3 to 5.6 metres across inside, with low rubble walls, and the enclosure walls are up to 2 metres wide and 0.5 metres high. In the south-west corner two of the huts are attached to a small pound within an enclosure. Where entrances can be seen they generally face south. Further huts of the same settlement lie to the north-east but are not scheduled, because they have not been formally assessed, and other nearby remains are scheduled separately.
