Southern White Hill cairnfield

Southern White Hill cairnfield is a Bronze Age monument comprising a cluster of burial cairns spread across the moorland south of White Hill. Like many such fields on Dartmoor, it represents an intensive use of the high moor for ritual and burial purposes in the Bronze Age, when communities invested considerable effort in marking their dead across the landscape.

Today the cairns remain as low stone mounds, visible among the heather and rough grass. The site sits in the open moorland character typical of central Dartmoor, and visiting it gives a sense of how extensively these uplands were used in prehistory. The monument is scheduled for protection, reflecting its archaeological importance to understanding Bronze Age settlement and practice on Dartmoor.
