Southern White Hill cairnfield

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1008756) describes a cairnfield on a gentle south-facing slope overlooking the Willsworthy Brook. It has ten mounds scattered round the edge of a field that is marked out only by where the mounds lie. Most are thought to be stone cleared from the ground when the area was cultivated in the Bronze Age. Six are roughly circular, 3.5 to 6.5 metres across and 0.3 to 0.4 metres high. The rest are oval, 4 to 7.5 metres long and 2.2 to 5 metres wide, 0.3 to 0.6 metres high, and the average height of all the mounds is 0.37 metres. One cairn has a shallow hollow in its centre, which suggests robbing or partial excavation. Another, 6.5 metres across, is probably a burial monument. It lies in the parish of Peter Tavy, about 1.3 km south-west of Doe Tor and 2.6 km south-east of Lydford.
