Southern of five cairns

This is the southernmost of five cairns forming an outlying cluster within a larger cairnfield on the north eastern slope of White Hill. The cairns date to the Bronze Age, when communities on Dartmoor built these stone monuments for burial and ceremonial purposes. They sit within a landscape densely scattered with the material traces of prehistoric settlement and land use.

Visiting the site today, you will find a low stone mound in open moorland, part of a pattern that speaks to how Bronze Age people understood and organised this high ground. The wider cairnfield rewards slow walking and observation. This is a scheduled monument, protected for its archaeological importance.
