Round cairn on Cosdon Hill, 1010m north of Cosdon Beacon

This round cairn sits on the northern flank of Cosdon Hill, part of the dense concentration of Bronze Age funerary and ceremonial monuments that characterise Dartmoor's uplands. Built from stone heaped over a burial or ritual deposit, it represents the enduring practices of communities who lived and died on the moor over three thousand years ago.
Today the cairn remains as a low stone mound, best appreciated as part of the wider Bronze Age landscape around Cosdon. Walking here, you move through a palimpsest of ancient activity: from this ridge you can see across to other cairns, stone rows, and settlements that speak to a moorland densely inhabited in prehistory, long before the landscape took on its more familiar medieval and modern character.
