Round cairn 1100m ENE of Wedlake Farm

This round cairn sits on high moorland roughly a kilometre east of Wedlake Farm, a modest but enduring marker of Bronze Age settlement and ritual. Like many such cairns scattered across Dartmoor, it was likely built as a burial monument or ceremonial site during the second millennium BC, when the moor supported a more populous and organized society than it does today.
Today the cairn survives as a low stone mound in open country, best approached from the moorland paths that cross this ridge. Its presence, shared with countless similar monuments across Dartmoor, speaks to the density of Bronze Age activity here and to the way the moor itself has preserved what lowland areas have often lost to agriculture and development. This is the Dartmoor that walkers and archaeologists have come to know: a landscape where the distant past remains literally underfoot.
