Prestonbury Castle (hillfort)

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1003861) describes a small hillfort with several enclosures on a prominent ridge, Prestonbury Common, overlooking the valleys of the River Teign and a tributary. It is an oval enclosure with a second narrow elliptical enclosure to the east and a third, much wider one to the north and east. It lies in the parish of Drewsteignton, about 1.4 km south-east of Drewsteignton.

The inner enclosure is 150 metres long by 93 metres wide and occupies the summit of the ridge, with steep natural slopes to the south and west. A rampart defines it, and there is a slightly inturned entrance on the east side. The middle enclosure is triangular, up to 100 metres long by 60 metres wide inside, with a rampart and a partly buried outer ditch, and a simple gap entrance slightly north of east. The outer enclosure cuts the summit of Prestonbury Common off from the rest of the ridge with a curving, strongly built rampart and outer ditch, and encloses an area up to 280 metres long by 150 metres wide. Its inturned entrance is on the north-east.
