Pillow mound by the Hentor Brook, Hentor Warren

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1014480) describes a pillow mound on a terrace just north of the Hentor Brook, part of Hentor Warren. The warren has around 50 pillow mounds and 10 vermin traps along the hillside between Spanish Lake and Shavercombe Brook and covers about 180 hectares. Its edge is marked by the River Plym on the north-west and a line of five boundary stones, of which only three survive, running from Spanish Lake Head by Shavercombe Head to Colesmills. It existed by 1807, when Lord Boringdon leased it to Peter Nicholls, a warrener from Sheepstor, with Hentor Farm probably the warren house. It was taken over and worked from Ditsworthy shortly after 1815 and stayed in use until the 1930s. It lies in the parish of Shaugh Prior, about 0.9 km south-west of Shavercombe Tor.

The mound is a flat-topped oblong of soil and stone 15 metres long, 5 metres wide and 2 metres high, with a ditch 2 metres wide and 0.1 metres deep round it from which it was dug. The monument is in the care of the Secretary of State.
