Pillow mound 40m east of Legis Tor forming part of Legistor Warren

This pillow mound is one of several earthworks that make up Legistor Warren, a managed landscape for rabbit farming dating to the medieval period. Pillow mounds, also called 'warrens' or 'coney garths', were constructed to provide ideal conditions for wild rabbits, which were kept as a valuable food source. The mound's distinctive rounded form would have offered shelter and breeding habitat.
Located on the open moorland east of Legis Tor, the site sits within Dartmoor's complex patchwork of historic land use. Walking the area today, you'll see the subtle earthwork among heather and grass, part of a broader warren system whose management shaped this corner of the moor centuries ago.
