Hut circle settlement, O Brook

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1020185) describes a partly enclosed hut circle settlement on a gentle west-facing slope above the O Brook. The scheduling falls into two areas, and the settlement has at least three enclosures and 18 huts. It lies in the parish of Holne, about 0.7 km south-west of Combestone Tor and 1.8 km south-east of Huccaby.

The northern area has two enclosures, at least 16 huts, a cairn and a number of prospecting pits. The huts are circular or oval banks round spaces of 7 to 24.6 square metres, averaging 14.9, with walls 0.3 to 0.8 metres high, averaging 0.53. Ten have visible doorways, four abut lengths of enclosure walling, and one lies under a later cairn 4.4 metres across and up to 0.8 metres high. Only part of the largest enclosure shows, but the line of huts near it strongly suggests they may once have been linked by a palisade or something like it, which partly survives buried. The two smaller enclosures are more complete, and the northern has a very fine entrance 0.7 metres wide with large edge-set slabs up to 0.75 metres high on both sides. The second area holds the southernmost enclosure and two more huts.
