Part of Penn Moor contour reave incorporating two hut circles

This scheduled monument preserves part of Penn Moor's Bronze Age landscape, a period when communities built permanent settlements across Dartmoor. The site includes two stone hut circles and an enclosed hut settlement arranged along a contour reave, a low stone bank that once served to control livestock movement and define land boundaries across the moor.

What you find today are the earthwork remains of these structures and field systems, subtle but persistent traces of how people lived and worked on the high moor thousands of years ago. The contour reave is a characteristic feature of Dartmoor's ancient field patterns, and its presence here alongside the hut circles shows the integrated way communities organised their settlement and pastoral landscape.
