Penn Moor reave and settlement

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1012805) describes part of the Penn Moor contour reave, which runs in an almost straight line across the slope of Penn Moor for about 500 metres, from a point east of the Rook watershed reave to Ford Brook. It probably went on for another 1.3 kilometres east to the River Yealm, but its likely line is covered by a newtake wall. It is an important part of the south-west Dartmoor reave system. It lies in the parish of Cornwood, about 1.3 km north of Rook Tor and 3.2 km north of Cornwood.

This part runs about 340 metres east from a gap where the reave has been demolished to Ford Brook. It is a bank of smallish boulders with some large natural ones, up to 3 metres wide and 0.75 metres high. It takes in an enclosed hut settlement known as Penn Moor Settlement, a sub-circular bank round at least eight hut circles, and two more huts east of it are attached to the south side of the reave.
