Long cairn 350m east of White Tor summit

This long cairn sits on the moorland east of White Tor's summit, a burial monument from the Bronze Age when Dartmoor's high ground was more actively settled and used. The cairn would once have held inhumations or cremations within its stone structure, though like many upland monuments it has been worked over by time and weather.

Today it appears as a heap of moorstone in the rough grass and heather. The site stands within a wider landscape of prehistoric remains, part of the archaeological palimpsest that marks Dartmoor as one of England's richest concentrations of Bronze Age heritage. It rewards those walking the higher moor with a tangible connection to the people who lived here thousands of years ago.
