Kitty Tor
Devon
Kitty Tor sits on the broad, high whaleback of Amicombe Hill on north Dartmoor, a surprisingly small rockpile for such a massive hill. The summit itself is a modest horizontally jointed rock, made conspicuous by the red warning flagpole that flies when live firing is underway on the nearby Okehampton Military Range. About 40 metres north stands a more substantial outcrop with a sizeable overhang beneath, where range huts are sited. The views from this height more than repay the climb, whether you approach steeply from the West Okement Valley or traverse the tussocky ground from the south.
