Ilsington Parish Council

Ilsington is a large rural parish on the eastern edge of Dartmoor, in the Teignbridge district of Devon, taking in the village of Ilsington itself along with Haytor Vale, Liverton and South Knighton. It is one of the biggest parishes in the county by area, stretching from the moorland fringe near Haytor down into the surrounding farmland. The village of Ilsington is centred on St Michael's Church, a cruciform building whose site has been used for worship since at least the 11th century, with the present structure dating mainly from the early 14th century. The Jacobean-era dramatist John Ford, best known for the tragedy 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, was baptised at the church in 1586. Haytor Vale, within the parish, sits close to the well-known Haytor granite outcrop and old tramway, a popular Dartmoor landmark. Ilsington Parish Council is the elected local authority for the area, working alongside Teignbridge District Council and Devon County Council.
