Buckland Monachorum Parish Council

Buckland Monachorum Parish Council serves a large rural parish on the western edge of Dartmoor National Park, roughly ten miles north of Plymouth and close to Tavistock, within the Borough of West Devon. The parish is unusually spread out, taking in not only the historic village of Buckland Monachorum but also Yelverton, Crapstone, Milton Combe and Clearbrook, each with its own distinct character. The council represents residents across all these communities to West Devon Borough Council and Devon County Council, and because of the parish's size, full council meetings rotate between village halls in different settlements rather than being fixed in one place. Buckland Monachorum village is best known as the location of Buckland Abbey, a former Cistercian monastery later home to Sir Francis Drake, and for its Grade I listed parish church of St Andrew, much of which was rebuilt in the late 15th century.
