Chagford Parish Council

Chagford is one of Dartmoor's four ancient stannary towns, sitting on the eastern edge of the national park within Teignbridge district. Chagford Parish Council is the elected local authority for the town and its surrounding parish, meeting regularly to consider planning applications and other local matters, and to represent residents to Teignbridge District Council, Devon County Council and the Dartmoor National Park Authority. The council is based at the Market House on The Square, an octagonal granite building erected in 1862 on the site of an earlier market house, which remains a well-known local landmark alongside the parish church of St Michael. Chagford's long history as a wool and stannary town has left it with a well-preserved historic centre of shops, pubs and listed buildings, and the town continues to serve as a hub for the surrounding farming and moorland communities.
