Liverton is a village in Ilsington civil parish, Teignbridge, Devon, on the eastern side of Dartmoor. The parish also takes in Ilsington, Haytor Vale and South Knighton. An 1894 gazetteer put Liverton 1.5 miles from Ilsington village and called it a hamlet. The Star Inn on Old Liverton Road describes itself as ten minutes from Haytor and the National Park, so the village appears to sit outside the park boundary.
The Star Inn began as a farmhouse. William Mortimore, who had a brewery at Kingskerswell, bought it in 1862 to sell his own beers. It reopened in May 2017 after a refurbishment.
The village hall was first the Liverton Hut, completed in 1926. Its history page traces it to Miss Mary Elizabeth Divett of Bovey Tracey, who died in 1913 and left her estate to a cousin, Mrs Phillpotts. The Women's Institute formed there in 1929 and still meets in it. In the Second World War the hut was the local Home Guard headquarters, hosted dances for American forces and housed a junior school for evacuees from London. Captain Phillpotts died in 1950 and his family gave the hall to the community, conveyed to Ilsington Parish Council in March 1953 for £1.
No dated history of the settlement itself has turned up, and none of the sources found gives a population for Liverton alone.
