Great Gnats Head

Devon

Great Gnats Head is an unassuming tor rising from the open moor in central Dartmoor. Its granite character is understated compared to some of the moor's more dramatic peaks, but it commands its locality and offers clear vistas across the surrounding moorland and distant tors.

The walk to Great Gnats Head is accessible from multiple directions across open moorland. The terrain is typical of central Dartmoor, with heather, grass and bog underfoot depending on season and recent weather. The tor itself provides a natural waypoint for circular moorland walks and a place to pause and take in the moor's quiet, rolling character.
