Flat Tor

Grid ref: SX 6091 8153

Flat Tor is a remote, flat area of granite easily reached by following military posts north from Rough Tor. Its location was once incorrectly mapped by the OS, but the correct grid reference is now known. To the south-east lies a water-filled pit where a naval aircraft crashed in 1965, with debris still visible. The tor is small and unassuming, but its solitude and position on the edge of the Merrivale firing range make it a quiet and intriguing spot.
