Higher White Tor
Devon
Higher White Tor stands on the open plateau of central Dartmoor, a granite summit that commands views across the high moor in all directions. At 522 metres, it is a substantial height by Dartmoor standards, and the tor itself is a straightforward walk from nearby roads and paths. The exposed granite shows the weathered character typical of Dartmoor's peaks, with good ground underfoot for most of the approach.
The tor sits in a landscape of open moorland, heather and grass, with few distinctive landmarks nearby. It is a place to come for the walk itself and the sense of being on the high moor, rather than for dramatic rock formations or rare views. On clear days the perspective across Dartmoor's rolling terrain is steadying and real.
