Cairn south-west of Gutter Tor

This cairn is a scheduled monument dating to the Bronze Age, a period when funeral cairns were widely built across Dartmoor's high ground. It stands as a visible reminder of early communities who lived and died on the moor thousands of years ago. The site sits within a landscape densely scattered with similar monuments, evidence of sustained settlement and ritual activity across the Bronze Age.

Today the cairn remains as a low stone mound in open moorland near Gutter Tor. Like many Dartmoor cairns, it may have marked a burial, a territorial boundary, or served some ceremonial purpose now lost to time. Walking the moor here, the cairn is one of countless such sites that give the landscape its distinctive character and link us to Dartmoor's deep past.
