Watern Oke: double hut circle

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1011564) describes a double stone hut circle on a gentle south-facing slope above the valley of the River Tavy, part of the large unenclosed Watern Oke settlement. It has two rooms with stone and earth walls terraced into the hillside. The western room is 6.5 metres long by 4.5 metres wide, with a wall 1.3 metres wide and up to 1.3 metres high. Its doorway faces west-north-west and one side of it is formed by a large earthfast boulder. The eastern room is 4.2 metres across, with a wall 1.4 metres wide and 1 metre high. It lies in the parish of Dartmoor Forest, about 1.9 km east of Ger Tor.

The Dartmoor Exploration Committee's excavation in June 1905 found hearths on the east and north sides of the western room, with a pile of cooking stones and a flint tool, and a hearth against the east wall of the eastern room.
