Cairn near Bellever Tor

These monuments form part of a Bronze Age cairn cemetery, one of several such burial grounds scattered across Dartmoor's high moorland. The site comprises a cairn with a stone burial cist situated 380 metres west of Bellever Tor, and a second cairn accompanied by a standing stone 370 metres to the south-west. Such groupings suggest sustained use of the landscape across generations, with communities returning to established burial grounds over time.
Today the monuments sit among rough grass and heather, their stones weathered but distinct. They offer a glimpse of how the Bronze Age population engaged with Dartmoor's open moorland, choosing high, visible locations for their dead. Walking the moor between these scattered stones, you trace the geography of an ancient Dartmoor community.
