White Barrow round cairn

White Barrow is a scheduled round cairn, a type of burial monument common across Dartmoor and built during the Bronze Age, roughly 4000 to 3000 years ago. Like many cairns on the moor, it would have held the cremated or inhumed remains of one or more individuals, possibly accompanied by grave goods. The site takes its name from its appearance, a distinctive pale mound in the moorland landscape.

Today the cairn survives as an earthwork on open Dartmoor. It stands as one of hundreds of Bronze Age monuments scattered across the moor, part of the archaeological record that shows intensive settlement and ritual activity here in prehistory.
