Hut circle near Beardown Man

This hut circle lies on open moorland south-west of Beardown Man, one of several Bronze Age stone structures scattered across this part of Dartmoor. The circular foundation of stacked stone would once have supported a timber-framed dwelling, part of a landscape intensively settled during the Bronze Age when the climate was warmer and the moor more extensively farmed.

Today the site is marked by a low stone ring, visible to those who know where to look among the heather and rough grass. It forms part of the wider archaeological record of Dartmoor's prehistoric past, telling the story of communities who lived and worked on the high moor thousands of years ago. The moorland setting gives a real sense of the scale and isolation of Bronze Age life here.
