Hut circle near Teignhead Farm

This is a Bronze Age hut circle, one of many scattered across Dartmoor's high ground. The site lies on open moorland roughly 450 metres northeast of Teignhead Farm. Like other structures of its type on the moor, it represents the remains of a roundhouse where people lived during the Bronze Age, between roughly 2000 and 800 BC.

Today, what you'll find is the low stonework of the circular foundation, often no more than a metre or so high, softened by grass and lichen. It's easy to walk past if you're not looking for it. These hut circles are among Dartmoor's most numerous prehistoric remains, evidence of a time when the moor supported a considerably larger population than in later centuries.
