Sourton Down Cross is a scheduled monument standing on the high moorland north east of Aliceford Farm. Like many crosses dotted across Dartmoor, it probably dates to the medieval period, though its exact age is uncertain. Such crosses served various purposes: they marked important routes across the moor, defined parish or estate boundaries, and provided waymarking for travellers in a landscape without roads.
Today the cross remains in situ on the open moor, a simple stone structure in a working landscape. Its survival speaks to the continuity of Dartmoor's paths and boundaries over centuries.
