Rival Tor
Devon
Rival Tor stands at 421 metres in a sheltered basin, surrounded by higher ground including Kennon Hill to one side and Scorhill to the east. It overlooks the wide open expanse of Gidleigh Common, where the Walla Brook and North Teign river spread out below. The tor itself is genuinely difficult to reach; the only real route comes from Scorhill via Gallaven Mire, and even then the final approach to the summit rocks is rough. It sits outside the firing ranges and gets few visitors, which is part of its appeal if you want somewhere quiet and off the beaten track.
