Rival Tor

Devon

Rival Tor stands at 421 metres on the central high moor, a relatively unassuming granite outcrop that rewards the walk with open views across Dartmoor's rolling landscape. The tor itself is not dramatic, but its position on the open moorland gives a genuine sense of height and perspective over the surrounding plateau and distant tors.

The approach is straightforward across accessible moorland, making it a good waypoint on longer moorland walks. The granite here is typical of Dartmoor's backbone, weathered and worn by centuries of moorland exposure. In clear conditions, the views west and south across the moor are considerable, and the site feels removed from roads and settlements despite its relatively central location.
