This scheduled monument preserves a complex of prehistoric remains south east of Venford Reservoir. The fields, settlements and cairns date to the Bronze Age, when Dartmoor's higher ground was farmed and lived on more intensively than it is today. The site forms part of the Dartmeet coaxial field system, a distinctive arrangement of parallel land divisions that characterises parts of the moor's ancient landscape.
Walking here, you move through layers of Dartmoor's past. The field boundaries, settlement traces and burial cairns are often subtle, integrated into the moorland itself. This is archaeology that demands attention and rewards it, offering glimpses of how the Bronze Age communities organised their land and ordered their lives on the open moor.
