Hockinston Tor
Devon
Hockinston Tor sits on the east bank of the River Dart within the steep, wooded Dart Valley between Dartmeet and New Bridge. The granite here, pink and shot through with quartz and tourmaline, has fractured into angular joints and scattered across the slope. A main linear outcrop runs downhill toward the river, topped by a small clearing with a holly bush. The approach is genuinely steep and ankle-breaking terrain, thickly covered in moss, trees and clitter with no marked path, though winter and spring ease the going. The reward is a striking view down the valley toward Bench and Sharp Tors, with the sound of the Dart cutting its chasm below.
