Sharrah Pool is one of Dartmoor's best loved wild-swimming spots, hidden in the wooded Dart Gorge below Dartmeet. It is a long, deep channel in the granite riverbed, held between two cascades, where the River Dart slows into clear green water before shallowing over patterned slabs downstream.
The banks are large granite slabs, boulders and small sandy coves, good for picnicking and drying off, with easy entry points along the edges. It is reached on foot along the river from the Holne and New Bridge side. After heavy rain on the moor the Dart rises fast and the currents can turn dangerous, so it rewards care as much as good weather.
