Venford Reservoir sits on the southern edge of the moor above Holne, close to the gorge of the Dart. It was completed in 1907, damming Venford Brook on Holne Moor to supply water to Paignton, and from around 1929 it also drew water from the Swincombe by pipeline. It holds up to roughly 198 million gallons behind a granite dam.
Today it is a popular and easily reached spot, with roadside parking, a fairly level path around the shore and the tumbling Venford Falls just below the dam. The open moor above, around Combestone Tor, gives wide views over the Dart valley.
