Pillow mound on the Plym streamworks below Legis Tor

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1015742) describes a pillow mound among earlier tin streamworking earthworks in the bottom of the Plym valley, part of Willings Walls Warren, which has at least 18 pillow mounds between Spanish Lake and Hentor Brook, covers about 113 hectares and existed by 1807, when Lord Boringdon leased it to Peter Nicholls of Sheepstor as part of Hentor Warren. After 1815 it was worked from Ditsworthy until the 1930s. It lies in the parish of Shaugh Prior, about 1 km north of Little Trowlesworthy Tor.

The mound is a flat-topped rectangle of soil and stone 20 metres long, 6 metres wide and 1.1 metres high, with a ditch 2 metres wide and 0.4 metres deep round it from which it was dug. A narrow gully 6 metres long, 1 metre wide and 0.1 metres deep leads south-west from the lower end of the ditch. Gullies like this are usually taken for drains, but on steep, well-drained slopes some at least may have been animal runs leading to traps or snares. The mound lies over alluvial tin streamworks, so it is more recent than the last tin working on this stretch of the Plym. The streamworks under the mound, ditch and gully are included in the scheduling, those beside it are not. The monument is in the care of the Secretary of State.
