This pillow mound forms part of Willings Walls Warren, a medieval rabbit warren on the eastern slopes of Dartmoor. The mound itself, situated 630m east of Legis Tor, is one of several earthworks constructed to manage and contain rabbits, a valued resource in the medieval and post-medieval periods. Pillow mounds, or coney garths, were carefully engineered to provide ideal conditions for rabbits to burrow and breed.
Today the mound survives as an overgrown earthwork in the moorland landscape, a tangible reminder of how medieval communities shaped Dartmoor for practical use. The warren site sits within the broader pattern of medieval and early modern land management visible across the moor, where deliberate modification of the landscape served both economic and social purposes.
