Two boundary stones stand together at Cullever Steps on the old Okehampton parish bounds, beside the East Okement River. Both are inscribed OPB, for Okehampton Parish Bounds. The larger, a nineteenth-century stone, replaced the smaller and older one. A Belstone Bounds stone inscribed BB stands on the north-east corner of the East Okement enclosures, at SX 60628 92076.

Dartefacts catalogues the pair as BS No.14 and BS No.15 in its Okehampton Hamlets and Dartmoor Forest boundary series, which runs from the stones near Lower Tor (No.01 to 03) past Inner Dinger, Curtery Clitters, New Bridge, Rowtor Combe and Hartor Corner to Henry's Ford (No.16). Those are catalogue numbers: they are not carved on the stones, which carry only the letters OPB. Dartmoor Explorations describes stones of this series as lying on the boundary as it ran before 1987, when East Okement Farm was not included in the Okehampton bounds.

Cullever Steps itself, the stepping stones and fords, is described under its own listing. Ranges lie nearby on the moor, so check the firing times before you go.

Dartmoor quiz

Old books sometimes spell "Sheeps Tor" differently. Which of these is one of those spellings?

Sheepstor. It appears in 18 of the old books and papers in our research library, so the name has not always been written the way we write it now.
