Irishmans Wall

Devon

Irishmans Wall is an early 19th-century dry stone wall constructed by Irish labourers around 1820. It runs for nearly a mile across the moorland, starting at Cullever Steps and crossing over Belstone Tor, continuing towards the River Taw. The wall itself has largely collapsed, but its line remains clearly visible on the ground, marking a distinctive path that separates Belstone Tor from Higher Tor. It's an unusual piece of Dartmoor history, a reminder of the labour gangs who worked the moor in that era.
