Mary Tavy Parish Council

Mary Tavy is a former mining village in West Devon, on the western edge of Dartmoor, a few miles north of Tavistock. Its landscape still carries the marks of the tin and lead mining industry that shaped the area in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, most visibly at Wheal Betsy, a ruined engine house on the parish boundary now in the care of the National Trust and a well-known Dartmoor landmark. The village also has an unusual small museum housed in a former telephone box, documenting local heritage. Mary Tavy Parish Council is the elected authority for the parish, holding monthly public meetings and dealing with matters such as rural broadband provision, highway safety on the A386, and planning consultation. The council publishes agendas, minutes and news through its own website and maintains a Facebook presence, and works closely with West Devon Borough Council, Devon County Council and the Dartmoor National Park Authority.
